Canadian airlines brace for wintry weather

TORONTO – Canada’s largest airlines have begun issuing numerous flight cancellation warnings for trips across the country as they brace for weekend weather full of ice and snow.

Environment Canada has issued severe weather warnings for British Columbia, northern Manitoba and southern Ontario.

Snowfall warnings in British Columbia and freezing rain warnings in southern Ontario are of particular concern to air travellers this weekend.

Air Canada, WestJet and and Porter have already issued travel advisories for a number of flights over the weekend.

Strong wind conditions may seriously impact all flights in and out of  St. John’s International Airport (YYT).

Additionally, snow may seriously impact flights in and out of the following airports:

• Toronto (YYZ, YTZ)
• Ottawa (YOW)
• Montreal (YUL)
• Vancouver (YVR)

WestJet Airlines

Winter storm systems may seriously impact flights in and out of the following regions:

• Vancouver, BC
• Abbotsford, BC
• Victoria, BC
• Comox, BC
• Nanaimo, BC
• Kitchener-Waterloo, ON
• London, ON
• Ottawa, ON
• Toronto, ON
• Hamilton, ON
• Montreal, QC

Porter Airlines

Porter Airlines has issued weather advisories for flights in and out of the following regions:

• St. John’s (YYT)
• Toronto (YTZ)
• Quebec (YQB)
• Ottawa (YOW)
