WATCH: RCMP are saying little about a man arrested in Ottawa on Wednesday, after a search of his Halifax-area home resulted in large quantities of chemicals. Ross Lord reports.
HALIFAX – RCMP say crews are expected to remain on scene through Wednesday evening at a home in Grand Desert, N.S. following the discovery of a large quantity of hazardous chemicals.
Police say the chemicals were found on Tuesday night and are being tested to determine what they are.
An evacuation order for homes on Dyke Road is still in effect and police say an update on the order will be provided at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Earlier on Tuesday, police found chemicals after a search of two properties in Cole Harbour. Homes there were evacuated, but residents were eventually allowed to return.

A 42-year-old man from Cole Harbour was arrested in Ottawa on Wednesday morning in connection with the investigation after hazardous materials teams responded to an incident that resulted in the evacuation of a hotel. Ottawa Police later confirmed no hazardous materials were found at the hotel.
Police sources identified the man to Global News as Christopher Phillips.
Investigators from Nova Scotia are expected to interview Phillips sometime on Wednesday.
