CALGARY – Tears were shed by the family and friends of Lacey Jones-McKnight as the Crown outlined its case against her former fiancé, Kristopher “Tray” Guenther, at a Calgary courtroom Wednesday morning.
Guenther, 32, is charged with first-degree murder in the October 25, 2012 murder of Jones-McKnight, who died by strangulation.
The Crown told court the relationship between the two was volatile, and he had moved out of their shared home.
The prosecution said Jones-McKnight had visited Guenther and an argument ensued on the day of the murder.

The Crown said Guenther confessed to a previous girlfriend that he had choked Jones-McKnight repeatedly after bounding her hands and legs and putting tape over her mouth.
The Crown alleged Guenther put Jones-McKnight in his car and drove to his ex-girlfriend’s workplace, then to the home of Jones-McKnight’s mother, where he confessed to the killing.
Guenther was later found trying to hang himself off a bridge on Country Hills Boulevard with Jones-McKnight’s body still in his car nearby.
