EDMONTON – Progressive Conservative leader Jim Prentice has accepted the resignation of Justice Minister Jonathan Denis.
In a media release Saturday, Prentice said he was made aware that legal proceedings have commenced between Denis and his estranged wife.
“Given the involvement of the courts, I have asked for and received the resignation of the minister of justice and solicitor general,” Prentice said.

In a statement Saturday, Denis said it was with regret that he tendered his resignation.
“A court action involving a personal family matter has caused me to take this step as it would not be appropriate to serve in the capacity of minister of justice and solicitor general, while this is being resolved,” Denis said.

Denis said he will remain the PC candidate for Calgary-Acadia.
Agriculture Minister Verlyn Olson will step in as acting minister of justice and solicitor general.
