Ticket sold in Mississauga claims record $64 million Lotto 649 jackpot

TORONTO – If you happened to buy your ticket for last night’s Lotto 649 draw at an outlet in Mississauga, Ont., you should really check your numbers – you could be very wealthy.

A single winning ticket for the $64 million grand prize – the biggest lottery jackpot in Canadian lottery history – was sold in the community just west of Toronto.

There’s no word yet whether it belongs to a single person or to a group of people.

A guaranteed prize of $1 million was also offered in last night’s draw, and it went to a ticket holder in Quebec.

The previous Canadian lottery record was $63.4-million for a 6-49 draw in April, 2013.

That pot was split among four ticketholders, who each banked nearly $16-million.

As lottery fever gripped Canada ahead of last night’s draw convenience stores and lottery kiosks across the country were jammed with customers dreaming of striking it rich.
