Majority of Manitobans would vote for Hillary Clinton, poll says

As Americans head to the polls to cast their vote Tuesday morning, Manitobans seem to also have a say in the election.

A new poll by Mainstreet Postmedia shows a majority of Manitobans would vote for Hillary Clinton.

The polls shows 55 per cent of Manitobans surveyed would cast their ballot for Clinton, while 28 per cent would vote for Donald Trump.

Compared to the rest of Canada, Manitoba is the province that shows the least support for Clinton.

“Hillary Clinton would win a massive majority of the popular vote in Canada if the U.S. election candidates were pitted against one another here,” Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet Research said,

“However, Manitoba is the province where Clinton finds the least support, even more though more than half of those surveyed would vote for Clinton if they had a vote today.”

A separate poll of Winnipeg finds similar levels of support with 57 per cent of Winnipegers supporting Clinton, Maggi said.

The majority of Manitobans surveyed also said that if Trump wins, Americans should not be expecting new immigration rules to make it easier for them to immigrate to Canada.

Other provinces

• Ontario: 72 per cent surveyed would vote Clinton and 16 per cent would vote Trump.
• Saskatchewan: 63 per cent surveyed would vote Clinton and 25 per cent would vote Trump.
• Alberta: 62 per cent surveyed would vote Clinton and 26 per cent would vote Trump.
• British Columbia: 63 per cent surveyed would vote Clinton and 21 per cent would vote Trump.
• Nova Scotia: 83 per cent surveyed would vote Clinton and 11 per cent would vote Trump.

This Mainstreet Postmedia poll was an phone survey of 5,066 Canadian residents conducted between Nov. 5-6. A mixture of landlines and cell phones were surveyed. The poll is considered accurate to within plus or minus 1.38 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
