Chris Gailus is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and the co-anchor of Global News Hour at 6 with Sophie Lui.
A 2026 Canadian Screen Award nominee, along with his colleagues, for “Best Local Newscast” for Global BC News Hour at 6, Chris and the team received a CSA (Canadian Screen Award) for Best Local Newscast in 2023, a year in which he and Sophie were also recognized as Best Local Anchor team in the country. They were also nominated for the same award in 2026.
In his nearly 40-year broadcast career, Chris has worked in both Canada and the U.S, where he received a 2005 Regional Emmy Award for “Best Morning Newscast” as host and co-anchor of Good Day New York at WNYW, the Fox News affiliate in New York.
A basketball scholarship athlete and graduate of the Broadcast Journalism Program at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Chris first worked in Lethbridge, Alberta, as a reporter and anchor, winning a CanPro Award as anchor of the Best Small Market Newscast. Chris moved back to Calgary as a reporter and anchor of Calgary’s CFCN (now CTV Calgary) weekend newscast before moving to Calgary 7 in 1997 (now known as Global News Calgary) as lead evening news anchor.
Chris moved to the U.S. in 2000, taking over as host of “Good Morning Texas” on the ABC affiliate WFAA TV, covering major stories like the impact of 9/11 on the Dallas metroplex and the crash of the Space Shuttle Columbia.
Outside of the newsroom, Chris actively supports the CKNW Kids’ Fund, serving on the board as Vice Chair. He and his wife also support B.C. Children’s Hospital, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, Zajac Ranch for Children and many other local organizations and charities, including the BC SPCA.
An advocate for blood clot awareness, in 2019 Chris shared his experience of ignoring symptoms of a near-fatal clot. His story has helped save lives and has prompted others suffering from the same symptoms to get checked.
Chris loves all sports, including rugby, football, basketball, golf, mountain biking, and in the winter, skiing. He and his family also enjoy travelling whenever they can.
Chris and Jane live in Vancouver with their son William and their standard poodle, Henry.
