Police-involved shooting in Kingston leaves man seriously injured, SIU investigating

Ontario’s police watchdog says it is investigating a police-involved shooting in Kingston after a 28-year-old man was seriously injured.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, Kingston police were called to the Waaban Crossing bridge after receiving a call from a man in distress at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived, they encountered the man.

The SIU says there was an interaction between police and the man and two officers discharged their firearms. The man was struck multiple times.

He was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Four SIU investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. The SIU says it has collected two firearms belonging to the officers, as well as a firearm belonging to the man.
