Lillooet RCMP find British newlyweds, who had no idea they were reported missing

VANCOUVER – The British newlyweds reported missing last week were pulled over today by the RCMP in Lillooet, unaware that they had been reported missing.

Caroline and Ben Davies of England are fine, police said today.

"We thank the public, and our many community partners like conservation officers and park rangers that assisted in looking for this couple and passing along information," Vancouver RCMP Sgt. Rob Vermeulen said today.

"We are pleased the couple have been located safe and sound and this is the outcome we were all hoping for."

Police had received a flood of tips from the public about the British newlyweds, and the sightings indicated that the couple were headed back to Vancouver, where they have relatives.

The couple didn’t realize they had been reported missing by family when they failed to return to Vancouver by July 4, Vermeulen said.

"We’ve had a lot of sightings from all over the province," he said earlier in the day.

The couple were married in early June and arrived in B.C. to visit relatives and planned to travel to northern B.C. do some backcountry camping.

They last contacted family by phone on June 22 from Terrace. They planned to return to Vancouver on July 4.

When they didn’t, family members began to get worried and contacted police July 10 to report the newlyweds missing.

The couple were reported missing July 10.
