CALGARY- A major project has been given the green light, in hopes of protecting the Sheep River Bridge from flooding.
The $800,000 plan will see a new berm built—hopefully ahead of the spring melt. Up to 9,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day, which links the towns of Black Diamond and Turner Valley. But during the June 2013 flood, a furious Sheep River washed it out.

“For two or three days we were seriously an island all on our own,” remembers Turner Valley Mayor Kelly Tuck. “This bridge brings friendship, this bridge brings access to all the services available.”
Black Diamond and Turner Valley have also teamed up with the MD of Foothills and the town of Longview, to build a $20 million filtration plant to provide drinking water.
