MONTREAL — A vigil was held in Longueuil on Friday morning for the five-year-old killed one year ago in a crash involving a speeding, unmarked police car.
Nicholas Thorne Belance was killed last February in a car crash at an intersection along Gaetan-Boucher Boulevard.
The boy was riding in a vehicle with his father, when it was struck by a speeding car driven by a Quebec provincial police officer.

According to reports, the Sûreté Du Québec officer’s car was going more than 120 kilometres an hour in a 50-kilometre-an-hour zone.
He was not responding to an emergency call, but as an investigator with the UPAC anti-corruption squad, was allegedly tailing a car belonging to a former member of Quebec’s Liberal Party.
After an initial investigation resulted in no charges being laid, Quebec’s Crown Prosecutor’s Office has demanded a further investigation into the Feb. 13 accident in St-Hubert.
