WINNIPEG – Snow fell Monday in southern Manitoba, ending a streak of above-normal spring temperatures as the provincial capital got ready for a whiteout.
The temperature was below 0 C and snow was falling as Winnipeggers prepared for the Monday workday and the Jets’ first home playoff game in 19 years starting at 8 p.m. CT.
A light dusting of white was greeted as a fitting tribute to Winnipeg’s NHL team. Jets fans will be wearing white at the MTS Centre Monday evening as the hockey-mad city revives the Winnipeg whiteout playoff tradition.

The forecast was for a high of just 2 C after record-setting temperatures reached above 20 C, with a record high of 24.8 C in Winnipeg on Wednesday. It’s the first time the temperature won’t reach double digits in Winnipeg since April 7.

Periods of wet snow were expected to end late Monday, but there was still a forecast 30 per cent chance of flurries. Winds were expected to blow at 40 kilometres per hour gusting to 60 km/h throughout the day.
The normal high in Winnipeg at this time of year is 13 C and the normal low is 0. Temperatures should warm up and be close to normal by the weekend.
