CALGARY – Voters in the riding of Calgary-Foothills are heading to the polls for the third time in less than a year.
The northwest riding was left without an MLA after former premier Jim Prentice abruptly resigned the seat he had just won in the May 5 provincial election.

Polls for the Calgary-Foothills byelection opened at 9 a.m.
Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer says there has already been “strong voter turnout” at advance polls, which were open for four days starting August 26.
A total of 4,146 eligible voters cast a ballot, which is about 12 per cent of the total electorate.

In comparison, only 4,062 ballots were cast during the 2015 Provincial General Election.
Polls close at 8 p.m., at which point unofficial results will be available on the Elections Alberta website.
