Chrystia Freeland has secured the new riding of University-Rosedale for the Liberal Party over NDP candidate Jennifer Hollett.
Freeland, who was elected in the old riding of Toronto Centre in a 2013 by-election, has won reelection after facing stiff competition from Hollett, a Harvard-educated former MuchMusic VJ who formerly worked on Olivia Chow’s 2014 campaign for mayor of Toronto.
Voters in the old Toronto Centre riding showed strong support for the NDP in the last election, but Freeland won the seat for the Liberals handily Monday.

The riding is traditionally red, with voters in this portion of the riding electing only Liberal MPs since 1997.
The Trinity-Spadina portion of the riding was represented by Chow from 2006-2014, and elected Liberal Adam Vaughn in a 2014 by-election.

The riding covers the neighbourhoods of Moore Park, The Annex, Yorkville, and Palmerston-Little Italy.
If the riding had existed in its current boundaries in 2011, the results would have been 43.8 per cent for the NDP and 30.6 per cent Liberal.
