Australian man missing following Tofino whale-watching accident: Reports

Searchers will return to the waters northwest of Tofino today, hoping to find any trace of the person missing since the whale-watching vessel Leviathan II went down on Sunday afternoon.

The Associated Press says the victim has been identified as a 27-year-old Sydney, Australia man who was vacationing with his British girlfriend and her family when the 20-metre boat sank.

The girlfriend’s father is believed to be one of the five British victims of the sinking.

Consular officials from the U.K. and Australia are offering assistance to the survivors as an investigation of the accident continues.

There are reports that two of the deceased are a father and son from the United Kingdom. David Thomas, 50, and his son, Stephen, 17, were two of the five Britons killed, according to The Guardian and the BBC. The other three have yet to be identified.
