MONTREAL – Sunday brings a major step forward in healthcare services in the city, with the opening of the Jewish General Hospital’s Pavilion K.
The pavilion comprises what is being touted as a state-of-the-art emergency department helping to ease wait times and decreasing overcrowding problems.
The hospital says that 18 departments will be relocated in the new tower overlooking Légaré Street, and that the expansion means an additional five operating rooms will now be available.

The Jewish General is a member institution of the Integrated Health and Social Services University Network for West-Central Montreal, that has over 9,000 staff members, 400 of which are doctors.
Nearly 45,000 people live in the area covered by West-Central Montreal Health.

New patients were being asked to avoid the hospital Sunday, as current patients were being transferred to the new pavilion.
The move was expected to end at 3 p.m. and visitors were warned to wait until then to meet their loved ones. Family members can go to the information counter on level S1 of Pavilion K to find the location of a patient’s new room.
