Four Manitobans chosen to play in world women’s hockey championship

WINNIPEG – Team Canada will have four Manitobans on its roster next month when it tries to win its first world women’s hockey title since 2012.

Forward Bailey Bram (Ste. Anne) along with defencemen Jocelyne Larocque (Ste. Anne), Brigette Lacquette (Mallard) and Halli Krzyzaniak (Neepawa) were among the 23 players named to the Canadian national women’s team for the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Kamloops, BC.

All four were a part of Canada’s silver medal winning team at last year’s tournament. Larocque also won gold at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Winnipegger Dwayne Gylywoychuk meanwhile will be behind Canada’s bench as an assistant coach.

The Canadians open the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship against the United States on March 28. The gold medal game will be played on April 4.

Canada has appeared in every championship game since the tournament’s inception in 1990.
