PENTICTON – With the contract finalized this week between Interior Health and the builder, construction of major improvements to the Penticton Regional Hospital is expected to begin in August.
EllisDon Infrastructure is responsible for design, construction and maintenance over 30 years for the six-story patient care tower and 480 stall parkade in a public-private partnership arrangement.
The project’s capital budget is $312.5 million.
The Okanagan-Similkameen Regional Hospital District is providing $117 million, the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation is contributing $20 million, Interior Health is providing $14.4 million and the provincial government $161.1 million.

Interior Health says it will pay EllisDon an average of $15.4 million annually over 30 years for equipment and building maintenance and debt financing.
The tower is slated to open three years from now.

There will be five operating rooms, 84 inpatient beds in single rooms, rooftop helipad and retail space.
Interior Health says Ontario based EllisDon is one of the largest hospital builders in Canada with over 400 projects completed.
