2nd annual stair climb fundraiser going strong for Calgary firefighters

Each day on the job is a test of bravery for Calgary firefighters, but Sunday they displayed a different kind of determination.

More than 300 firefighters took part in the annual stair climb challenge at the Bow Tower.

They suited up with 45 pounds of gear and climbed more than 1,200 steps to the top.

Money was being raised for Wellspring Calgary, an organization that helps people living with cancer.

“We have a lot of people unfortunately after they retire or sometimes before they retire suffer from what we call presumptive cancer, which are eleven cancers that have deemed to be a much higher presence within firefighters due to occupational risks,” Chief Steve Dongworth from the Calgary Fire Department said.

This is the second year for the stair climb challenge in Calgary.
