‘These cuts are going to hurt kids’: NDP warns of classroom cuts

The Saskatchewan NDP is warning parents of chaos in the classroom after minimal increases in the Sask. Party’s provincial budget for school boards.

The opposition education critic, Carla Beck says K-12 schools are actually facing a cut because the additional $1.3 million allocated for operating costs doesn’t meet inflation.

“These cuts are going to hurt kids in the classroom, we’re going to see larger class sizes and needs are going to go unaddressed,” Beck said.

However, education minister Don Morgan says it’s part of the Sask. Party’s “transformational change” and savings can be found.

“The challenge I would say to all the school divisions is sit down with a blank piece of paper and say how many things can we share with another school division. I haven’t seen from any of the school divisions a real reduction in a number of administrative staff that they have,” Morgan said.
