With 14 road, marine and off-road vehicle deaths over this year’s Labour Day long weekend, the OPP said it was the deadliest in OPP-patrolled areas in 20 years.
Twelve people died on Ontario roads, including a single-vehicle crash in northwestern Ontario that killed four people.
One person died while on the water and another person died after an off-road vehicle collision.

The OPP also conducted a province-wide inattentive driving campaign over the long weekend and police laid almost 800 distracted driving charges.
According to an Aug. 30 statement, the Ontario Provincial Police said distracted driving-related deaths are on track to double the number of impaired driving-related fatalities this year.
Officers investigated 38 road deaths as of mid-August where the driver was found to not be paying attention versus 19 deaths involving impaired drivers, the statement said.
