Quebec’s Bureau of independent investigations (BEI) has dispatched a team of nine investigators to Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, following the death of a 34-year-old man in a collision on Highway 202 Friday.
Preliminary reports suggest the driver was speeding, allegedly going as fast as of 165 km/h.
Officers with the Sûreté du Québec who were monitoring the highway then turned on their sirens, did a u-turn and gave chase.

However, after a short pursuit the officers turned off the sirens due to the increasing distance between the speeding vehicle and the police cruiser.
Officers then reported seeing a red light in the distance and drove on to investigate only to discover the driver had crashed.
He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Highway 202 has been closed since 3:30 a.m. and will remained closed for an undetermined period as the investigation continues.
