Five players left the Winnipeg Jets for new teams during the opening day of NHL free agency on Saturday.
Goalie Ondrej Pavelec signed a one-year contract worth $1.3-million with the New York Rangers. The 29-year-old is expected to backup starter Henrik Lundqvist. Pavelec has spent his entire ten-year NHL career with the Jets/Atlanta Thrashers organization. He was demoted to the AHL at the beginning of last season before being called back up to the Jets. Pavelec finished the year with four wins, a 3.55 GAA and 0.888 save percentage in eight NHL games.

Defenceman Paul Postma is heading to the Boston Bruins after signing a one-year, $725,000 deal. The 28-year-old scored a goal and 13 assists in 65 games with the Jets in 2016-2017.
The Washington Capitals have inked forward Anthony Peluso to a one-year, two-way contract. Peluso was cut by the Jets during last year’s training camp. He ended up playing 22 games with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose before undergoing season-ending surgery to fix an upper-body injury.

Brenden Kichton has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. The 25-year-old posted a goal and 22 assists with the Moose last season. He was selected by the Jets in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Draft.
Fellow defenceman Brian Strait will become a New Jersey Devil after putting pen to paper on a one-year, two-way deal. Strait had two assists in five games with the Jets in 2016-2017. He also scored two goals and 12 assists in 58 games as a member of the Moose.
