It looks like there is now real competition in Canada’s wireless industry.
That’s the conclusion to be drawn from the latest move by Shaw’s Freedom Mobile, which was granted preferential treatment by federal regulators when bidding for new wireless spectrum against the country’s “big three” mobile providers: Rogers, Telus and Bell.
Freedom Mobile just announced that it will offer the new iPhone X for $0 down when customers sign a two-year contract.
Compare that to the big three, which are offering the latest iPhone at $599 upfront, plus $95 per month on two-year plans.

And that price only includes one gigabyte of data.
Freedom’s price, however will include 10 gigabytes of data for $110 per month.
To get that much data and a new iPhone from the big three, customers must pay at least $155 per month, plus upfront costs.
This will be Shaw’s first foray into iPhones, with deliveries set to ship next month, and plans to really shake up the market.
