London Mayor Matt Brown is defending his decision to rent a second office in the downtown.
The office, located at Innovation Works at 201 King St., is part of a co-tenancy agreement that costs $141 per month.
Brown noted that it’s more of a working space rather than a traditional office.
“It’s not an actual office space, it’s called a hot desk,” Brown explained on The Craig Needles Show on Monday.

“It provides my staff, it provides me an opportunity to have about 20 hours of work time throughout any given month as well as access to meeting rooms three times a month.”
The fact the office space is located outside of city hall, however, has led to questions of whether there could be conflicts of interest.

“I don’t see a conflict and I know that my staff appreciate the opportunity to work in that space when they need to get away, when they need to write, and even when they need to shoot video like they did for the state of the city address.”
The agreement with Innovation Works doesn’t break any of the rules for council expenses set at city hall.
Brown has used the space since June of last year and will continue to use it until the end of April.
