The Ontario Municipal Board has upheld the City of London’s decision to allow a controversial abattoir in southwest London.
The city gave the green light for the halal slaughterhouse on Longwoods Road back in July, much to the dismay of area residents who complained of flies, odours, and concerns over the removal of dead animals.

One of those residents filed an appeal, which the board heard last month and dismissed on Friday.

The board also noted that when the city approved the zoning amendment, it also took measures to try to address neighbours’ concerns, issuing two holding provisions: that the applicant get site plan approval, and that the applicant develop a nutrient management plan to regulate manure.
