Police warned the public Tuesday of the release of a high-risk sex offender from Stony Mountain Institution who is expected to live in Winnipeg.
Michael James Fells, 35, is a convicted sex offender who is considered a high-risk to re-offend in a sexually violent manner against women and girls, Winnipeg police said in a release.
Fells had served a sentence for sexual assault, forcible confinement, uttering threats and failing to comply with a probation order. He was also designated as a dangerous offender and given a seven-year global sentence.

Winnipeg police said Fells will now be under a 10-year supervision order, preventing him from:
- being in the presence of children under 18 years old unless accompanied by an adult aware of his criminal record
- attending public parks with children present, along with swimming areas, daycare centres, school grounds, playgrounds, and community centres
Fells will also be subject to a lifetime weapons prohibition order.
Winnipeg police said Fells has a history of sexual offences, including the assault of a nine-year-old girl who was the daughter of a friend. Police said he grabbed her wrists, pushed her down, threatened and sexually assaulted her.
