B.C. municipal election 2018: Langford results

It wouldn’t be a municipal election in Langford without Stew Young. Young was re-elected for his ninth term as Langford mayor, having occupied the job since 1993.

Young finished with 83 per cent of the vote, defeating rival Robert Fraser.

Five incumbents were re-elected to city council — Lillian Szpak, Denise Blackwell, Lanny Seaton, Matt Sahlstrom, and Roger Wade. Norma Stewart is sole newcomer to city council.

Langford is located on southern Vancouver Island, about 14 kilometres from Victoria. To its south is the community of Colwood and to its west you’ll find Goldstream.

History

Langford is a relatively young municipality with a long history.

European settlement in the area dates back to 1851.

At that time, Capt. Edward Langford set up one of four Hudson’s Bay Company farms near Victoria.

The City of Langford was incorporated in 1992.
