One of the city’s food banks is putting out an urgent call for donations.
The Neighbour2Neighbour Centre, which serves about 1,100 households on Hamilton Mountain, is looking at nearly bare shelves.
Neighbour2Neighbour’s Shane Faraway is appealing for traditional staples like peanut butter, rice and cereal, but especially fresh fruit and vegetables that any backyard gardeners can spare.

Food banks face a drop in donations during summer months with schools being closed, fewer workplace campaigns and people on vacation.
Neighbour2Neighbour is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., except on Thursdays when it’s open from 9:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
