BRONCOS BEAT BLADES
Taylor Vause was the Overtime Hero, as the Swift Current Broncos took the front end of a home and home weekend series with the Saskatoon Blades. Vause scored 2:42 into the extra frame, giving the Broncos a 4-3 win. With their victory and a Prince Albert Raiders loss, the Broncos are now tied for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The good news for the Blades is that they do get a single point out of this. The bad news is that they've been bumped out of first place in the Eastern Conference by the Brandon Wheat Kings. The good news is that the Blades have four games in hand. So a mixed bag of results if you will.
By the way, what did I tell you about Cody Eakin? He's a Blades Killer! He scored a nice shorthanded goal in the win – backhand top shelf – his seventh goal this season against the Bridge City Bunch. They've got to find a way to stop him.
These two will meet again on Saturday Night in Swift Current.
CLARA HUGHES THE FLAG BEARER
(Photo: www.clara-hughes.com) She's won a pair of medals at the Summer Olympics (cycling) and six medals at the Winter Olympics (speed skating), now Clara Hughes can add "Olympic Flag Bearer" to her already impressive resume.

The 37-year old from Winnipeg was given the honour of carrying Canada's flag into the Opening Ceremonies at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
While she turned down an offer to carry the flag in 2006, she didn't hesistate this time around. She is a tremendous choice for this honour as she embodies the Olympic Spirit both in and out of sport. Her accomplishments speak for themselves but away from sport, she's a humanitarian who goes to great lengths to help those less fortunate around the world.
The only question left before the Olympics kick off… who will light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremonies? Look for my take on that in a future blog post.
SASKATCHEWAN SUMMER GAMES
Meadow Lake will play host to the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games.
This will mark the first time the Saskatchewan Games will be hosted so far north in our Province. I've only been to Meadow Lake once in my life and from what I saw, it's a great place! I was there in February 2009 for the SaskTel Tankard and the people were friendly and the drive up was phenominal! I can only imagine how beautiful that drive must be in the summer.
WARNER RETIRES
After 12-seasons, three trips to the Superbowl, a Superbowl Championship and a Superbowl MVP award, Kurt Warner is calling it a career. I know it's been used by tons of media outlets today, but Kurt Warner's career really was a feel good story. From stocking shelves at a supermarket to playing in the Arena Football League and NFL Europe – all before leaving a lasting impression in the National Football League.
His story proves that anything is possible and as some have said, "It's not where you start it's where you finish". For Kurt Warner – he finishes on top of his game and with the ability to go out on his own terms.
During his retirement speech today, you could tell just how humble he is. He made a point to thank the St. Louis Rams, New York Giants (yep, it was a very short stint but he did play there haha) and the Arizona Cardinals for giving him an opportunity to play and more importantly, giving him a chance when everyone else had given up on him. He proved his critics wrong time and time again, which is one of the reasons why is my favorite player in the NFL.
There is no doubt in my mind he'll be heading to Canton, Ohio to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame – a worthy honour to say the least.
To steal a line from Bret "The Hitmen" Hart – Kurt Warner is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. So to Kurt Warner… I've only got one thing to say to you…
