Driver dies in Tuesday morning crash; speed believed to be factor

Edmonton – One person is dead after the truck he was driving lost control and rolled into a ditch in south west Edmonton.

The crash happened at around 5 Tuesday morning on Winterburn Road and 215 Street.

Police say the 34-year-old victim died at the scene.

The Edmonton Police Service Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the fatal collision.

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Investigators believe the victim was coming from the River Cree Casino. A toxicology will determine if alcohol was also a factor in the collision.

Police have closed 215 Street in both directions, and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
