Police said officers were called to the Cedar Ridge Apartments in the 100 block of Lynnview Road Southeast just before 5 a.m.
The victim, a man in his mid-20s, was pronounced dead at the scene after being found on the road, police said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Investigators said Tuesday afternoon they are looking to speak with the victim’s roommate, whom officers have not been able to locate.

“This is very surprising – I thought it was a good neighbourhood,” area resident Clifford Octroworch tells Global News.
Area residents tell Global News they heard what sounded like an argument shortly after 4 a.m.
Christine Kelly, who lives nearby, said it was “a little nerve-wracking” to see police cars converge on the community.
“It doesn’t matter, wherever you live in the city it’s going on,” Kelly said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Calgary Police Service’s non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
