TORONTO — The great Canadian maple syrup caper that made headlines around the world last winter is heading to the big screen.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to a comedy about the theft of about 2.7 million kilograms of maple syrup from a Quebec town in 2011 and 2012.

Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is reportedly set to star in the movie, which will be directed by Seth Gordon (Identity Thief).
The script, by Chris Sheridan (Family Guy), is based on coverage of the sticky heist by Montreal Gazette reporter Anne Sutherland.
Police arrested nearly two dozen people in connection to the sticky heist worth more than $20 million.
