RCMP have charged a 16-year-old boy, after Central Kings Rural High School in Cambridge, N.S. was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon due to a threat against a student.
Kings District RCMP said they first received a report of the threat at 1:30 p.m. According to police, the youth was threatening to come to the school and “harm another student.”
“The male youth also sent the victim a picture of a handgun,” RCMP wrote in a news release.
That prompted the high school to immediately go into lockdown. Cambridge and District Elementary School, which is adjacent to the high school, went on hold and secure.
Lockdown protocols mean the school’s doors are locked, lights are turned off and movement is limited. Hold and secure typically means the doors to the building are locked but classes continue as normal inside.
In response to the threat, officers from multiple RCMP units responded to the area around the high school. The Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team and RCMP Police Dog Services were also called in to help.
