It comes after Calgary city council voted to write a letter to the province asking for an investigation into the leak of confidential budget documents.

According to the report, Calgary must build between 23,000 and 24,000 total new housing starts annually over the next 10 years to close the gap.

Calgary mayor Jeromy Farkas said the city's $50 billion infrastructure deficit "won't dissapear" in a single budget or council term, but noted council must chip away at it.

Preliminary budget documents obtained by Global News show a large property tax increase would be required to pay for the funding requests in front of Calgary city council.

'This is a wishlist. Everybody comes out of the woodwork around budget time and asks for all of the stuff,' Mayor Jeromy Farkas told reporters Thursday.

The figures were included in a number of confidential, preliminary budget documents obtained by Global News after being presented to Calgary city council earlier this summer.

The list of the highest-risk intersections comes after the City of Calgary used AI to assess and assign a risk score to more than 17,000 intersections across the city. 

The City of Calgary's contracts come as the Calgary Stampede evaluates bids to study the possibility of multi-purposing GMC Stadium to allow for field sports.

The plan, entitled Safer Together, aims to coordinate the response to address safety in public spaces, homelessness, domestic violence, poverty and social isolation.
