Premiers in Eastern Canada are once again calling on residents to buy local as Canada squares off against the United States in an escalating trade war.
Prince Edward Island Premier Rob Lantz issued a news release Sunday urging Islanders to seek out products produced in Canada and in their home province.

Lantz said every dollar spent on goods from Canada or P.E.I. supports the local people and businesses behind the product.
New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt made a similar plea on Saturday, saying businesses in her province will be hit with U.S. President Donald Trump’s new 50 per cent tariffs on some Canadian imports.

Holt called on New Brunswickers to double down on their efforts to buy local and support businesses in the province.
On Saturday, Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette said if each family in the province bought $25 worth of local products every week, roughly $3 billion would be injected back into the economy.

Buying local products is a wonderful idea but first the local products have to be there in the quantities needed and a price people can afford. Quebec is the last province to preach they won’t allow pipelines go through the province to move our own oil across our country so Canadians can buy it.

Maybe the LPC should stop all the carbon, plastic and packaging taxes they’re inflicted on Canadian business’ and consumers. Interprovincial trade is unsustainable with these in place.

So trade talks failed because the USA wanted relaxed and on French language on products sold in Canada? That the USA wanted Canada to reduce their ties with communist China? Because Canada wanted to take even more auto manufacturing jobs from Detroit? Sounds like the USA is just looking after the USA.
So Carney is going to support the companies that are affected by the trade war? He is going to pay steel and aluminum workers to stay at home producing nothing? Where will Carney get the money? Some say an asset tax, if you own anything you pay a 1% tax every year on your assets. You have a $500,000 house? Well cough up $5,000 in taxes each year. It makes a person really consider moving to the USA… if they would want us.
Canada cannot survive without a US trade deal. Canada actually builds nothing. Our auto industry is basically US companies building vehicles in Canada because we subsidize them. Like even little Sweden manufacturers their own vehicles, Volvo, which is sold around the world. The only unique thing Canada produces is Maple Syrup.
I think we are going “full send” third-world, in 2027. This trade war is out of control and the only response our useless government has come up with is to put tariffs on USA goods so we have to spend more for essentials. This government should be tried for treason against taxpaying citizens.
And, provincially, Holt sunk us 1.5 billion dollars into debt without a single thing to show for it. Emergency wait time aren’t much better than they were 20 years ago, homeless are everywhere, crime is off the charts, and last winter we saw the worst excuse for snow removal seen in 40 years.
