The second week of Quebec’s election campaign is wrapping up after issues such as immigration and anglophone rights took centre stage.
The Parti Québécois, which has maintained its lead in the polls despite growing support for the governing Coalition Avenir Québec, is facing criticism after its leader stirred up controversy with comments about immigrants in schools.
In recent days, PQ Leader Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon linked immigration to overcrowded schools and the decline of the French language.
Québec solidaire spokesperson Ruba Ghazal accused him of scapegoating immigrant children, while criticizing previous governments for underfunding the education system.
St-Pierre-Plamondon was also criticized for citing data that includes the Quebec-born children of immigrants.

Meanwhile, Christine Fréchette’s Coalition Avenir Québec was under fire after Élections Québec said language laws were forcing it to provide printed voter guides in French only.
Liberal Party Leader Charles Milliard wrote an open letter expressing his disapproval after Élections Québec was accused of voter suppression by groups advocating for anglophones.

If any other provinces tries to do what Quebec does they would be in big trouble. All in the name of the French language and culture if that’s what it means to be French in Quebec I don’t want any part of it. Carney and this Liberal government should be ashamed of themselves for allowing Canadians to be treated this way.

And forcing a language on all canadians who were NOT BORN IN QUEBEC should have been against the Constitution of Canada that say we ALL have the right to speak the language of MAJORITY in any province in Canada – and yet QUEBEC FRENCH has shown up on everything I use and read in majority speaking english Alberta. AND the COST of all this saving of QUEBEC culture and language to ALL ENGLISH SPEAKING canadians has been very damaging and costly to all our pockets every day. My NEW mantra – KEEP IT IN QUEBEC and stop forcing it on the rest of Canada. You know, like Quebec puts on everything canadian now – EXCEPT I QUEBEC, except in QUEBEC. NOW IT IS KEEP IT IN QUEBEC and keep it out of the rest of canada. Period.
