A woman was taken to hospital after being attacked by a bear while hiking in the backcountry near Whistler, B.C., on Friday evening.
A group of three hikers encountered two bears near Conflict Lake in the Callaghan Conservancy at around 5 p.m., the B.C. Conservation Officer Service said in a social media post Saturday afternoon.
One of the bears attacked the woman before disengaging, officials said.

The Conservation Officer Service’s Predator Attack Team, Squamish RCMP and Squamish Search and Rescue responded to the area by helicopter.
The woman received first aid at the scene before she was airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Conservation officers said an adult male black bear found at the attack site was killed due to safety concerns.

However, officials said they have not determined whether a black bear or grizzly bear was responsible for the attack.
Officers returned to the area Saturday to continue their investigation.
Trail access in the area is now closed, and officials are asking people to stay away while the investigation continues.

@ sallysue, I don’t think it’s a matter of entitlement as it is, you hike in these places at your own risk. That being said, I do not agree that the bears are killed for doing what comes naturally to them when faced with a predator, humans.

A man got attacked by a bear in NV 500m from an elementary school a few weeks back. And a kid attacked in her back yard. Luckily they shot those bears too.
I guess we should all just sit in our homes or exercise inside at gyms and never go outside.

I’m so sick of the self entitled Hikers who know the dangers of walking into Wildlife Territory but still do it. Even if they carry Bear Spray which burns the Bears eyes is so wrong. Why are people allowed to continue Encroaching into Wildlife Homes? I’m for the Bears, not stupid Hikers.
No shortage of bears in BC folks. I can guarantee another bear has already taken its place.
There is something like 170000 of them in BC and growing each year. This mainly due to the species additional survival success in living off humans. They are becoming just another garbage raccoon. .

Another innocent bear killed. Because of humans.
Whistler has a black bear problem the community refuses to admit to. The locals feed them like pets in their yards. The golf courses are littered with them at night. Just a matter of time before the Grizzlies catch on to the garbage ridden resort life style.
Why kill the bear. The hikers were in the bears territory. Was the bear killed the bear that attacked the person? How did they prove it was the right bear. All these parks trails national parks should be closed to the public, so the wildlife can be left alone. They should have signs saying there is a high risk for wildlife to attack you. You enter at your own risk.
When women choose the bear, and the bear chooses them back.
