Prime Minister Mark Carney is gathering his cabinet today and Friday in the mountain resort town of Banff, Alta., for closed-door meetings as U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war intensifies.
Trump lashed out again Tuesday by signing executive orders to ban certain Canadian imports later this month, including alcohol, motorcycles and dairy products.
The latest tit-for-tat comes after Ottawa levied tens of billions of dollars in counter-tariffs on the United States.

That came after bilateral trade talks broke down at the eleventh hour and Trump pushed ahead with new duties on Canadian products.
The cabinet retreat comes as the Liberal government plans its agenda for the fall sitting of Parliament in less than two weeks.
Carney’s office says ministers at the retreat will hear from guest speakers on the economy, Indigenous partnerships and international affairs in closed-door sessions.

The Poilievre conservatives in the comnents seem to openly say”I surrender” to the USA. Well, I will give Poilievre credit for going to New York after checking with the PMO and acting non partisan. I voted for the Liberal MP in my riding thinking that Mark Carney, with his credentials, would be an appropriate choice for P.M..I have always leaned to the Liberal side but did not vote for the Liberals during Trudeau’s leadership. The guy gave me a bad taste in my mouth the first time I heard him speak.
So far with Carney, I am not impressed .I don’t feel that the way these trade talks have proceeded is the right direction. We can not be without U.S. trade and regardless of Trump, we should be at the table ,at the very least,not walking away.

The guest speakers that should be there are Canadians that have to go the food banks to feed their family. The Canadians that are struggling to put food on their table would be better guest speakers than they have but no don’t listen to the Canadians. What will come out of this will be some great announcement about another government benefit that they will tell the Canadians they have their back so here is some of your Tax dollars back in a nice benefit they created,
Instead they should actually look at being leaders and work on lowering the cost of living for all Canadians and get away from the government handouts. IE – grocery benefit or another name a welfare check.
As for them going to Banff or any other expensive resort all other political parties would do the exact same thing as all governments treat the taxpayers as their personal bank roll that never stops giving.
And there will be a few more Billions for Ukraine. Maybe once the war is over all Canadians could be given a free vacation to Ukraine due to the amount of Billions that was given to them since the War started.

@AB Patriot at 1054am. Between 2015 and 2025, oil production in Alberta grew just over 40%. The Liberals also purchased the Trans Mountain pipeline. I understand that the Liberals could have been more responsive to Alberta, but the fact remains they were extremely beneficial for oilsands development as they could have throttled it. They didn’t, because production increased from 2.5 millions of barrels a day to 4.1.
