Canada will never forget those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Friday as the world marked the 25th anniversary of that devastating day.
“The truest tribute is to serve – to look after the stranger amongst us simply because help is needed,” Carney said.
Carney remembered the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the attacks, including 24 Canadians as well as thousands who were wounded.
“Twenty-five years on, our grief has not faded – and neither has our resolve to stand against hatred and terrorism,” he said.
In his tribute, Carney also expressed solidarity with Americans.

“Canadians stand with our American neighbours in mourning, remembrance, and solidarity,” he said.
In the hours following the attacks, when American airspace was closed off, Canada accepted 224 planes “without hesitation,” Carney said, making a special mention of the town Gander, N.L.
The town of Gander, N.L., a town of around 10,000 people, and surrounding areas took in nearly 7,000 stranded travellers whose planes were diverted.
NATO, the military alliance of which both Canada and the United States are part, invoked a rare article in its charter for the first time in its history. Article 5, which calls on all members to respond to an attack on any one member, was invoked and Canada followed the U.S. as it invaded Afghanistan.
Carney paid tribute to the more than 40,000 Canadians who served in Afghanistan in the years that followed.
“We will never forget those who never came home, the courage of those who ran toward the danger, and the small acts of kindness that brought light to the darkest of days,” he said.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also paid tribute to the victims.
“We remember every life that was tragically lost and honour the courage that Canadians and Americans summoned in its wake,” Poilievre said on Friday.
His comment of their values are Canadian values says otherwise.
Typical liberal. Less words said the more respectful it would be. Silence especially from a self serving political office should be observed.
Liberals made sure to play politics today on 9/11 and make it a partisan event. Total embarrassment for Canada .
Great time for the ” Muslim values are Canadian values ” speech
@ernie. Chretien was never found to have taken a penny. I said Chretien wasn’t a partisan in the context of the speech.
Wow! Some of you are so consumed with knocking everyone but yourselves you cannot find time to remember all the good people who gave their lives to do their job. For shame!
Carnage Carney is in Alberta with his got nothing done Minister. Top of line food drink and rooms.
Taxpayers paying for end of childish summer vacation from vacationing year round. Then use taxpayers money to send a horrible former PM on taxpayers dime yet again.
Carney has no class. He should have went to the Gander Memorial or to the 9/11 in NY. Instead he hid like a coward in Banff
Maybe coc sux carney should pick a lane . A while ago he said ” Muslim values are Canadian value “
@Tim. Chretien was a partisan then and still is. If he wasn’t a partisan we would not have “endorsed” Trudeau 3 times…I guess you also forgot about his massive Adscam scandal. Corruption at its finest. Chretien lined his own pocket with the scandal.
@Amanda Smith. Chretien was not partisan, but your post is
@ab patriot. Your comment is what I expect from you.
@Amanda. You looking in front of a mirror when you be saying that
Chretien is now a senile old man, who was a disgrace back as PM and irrelevant now.
Everyone entitled to say and think whatever they want, never ever tell me what to think or say
Chretien has not class, I saw his speech in Gander. I guess what do you expect from a Liberal from Quebec.
@Anonymous. This was not the time and place for this. This was a memorial for 9/11 and a tribute to the Gander citizens . It was inappropriate for Chretien, instead he made himself look like a partisan fool.
@ Derek Hunter – your extreme anti-Canadian bias is far more offensive. Don’t let the door hit ya.
@Derek Hunter. Chretien said Canada and USA were friends, and complained about the 51st state jibes. Waa not anti american. Intended audience is daft US administration
I see they brought that old fossil Chretien to talk at the Gnader Memorial. Of course he had to mock the USA at the most inappropriate time. Liberals can’t help themselves with their extreme anti-American ideology.
@Rudy. In addition to saying Muslims were cheering on 9/11, Trump said he was at Ground Zero. Your story about Muslims cheering in the company you said you worked for reminds of both of his refuted stories. It’s sad how some use 9/11 to attack minorities.
Just the most terrible people in here. Don’t know what they stand for but know what they are against. Their worldview is just a list of grievances. Trying to blame someone else for their own unhappiness.
5 million people both soldiers and civilians have died since 9/11 which was a tragedy, but let that also sink in also
Carney is a total cheeseball.
@Ben. Trump wasn’t President in 2001 and I saw it with my own eyes. Sorry for your ignorance.
There is quite possibly nothing more sickening than using a horrible tragedy like 9/11 to spread garbage and lies to try & score political points……but, here we are with endless morons polluting this thread with garbage trying to do just that! F’n pathetic!
Some of those commenting here are extremely ignorant. Today is a day to honour all those who helped out and morn those who died. RIP
@Rudy. There was a false story that Donald Trump fabricated about Muslims cheering on 9/11. Fox News initially blathered on about it, but then walked away from it knowing it was clearly false.
@Ben. I worked for a large photonics company during 9/11. Sorry your myopic ideology blinds you from reality.
@Rudy Tirinzoni. There were no Muslims cheering in a “high tech” company in Ottawa on 9/11. And “high tech” isn’t the term one uses, so it’s doubtful you worked at said company.
Never forget, the day Muslims killed Americans

Its not very secret, even in this comment section people are praising the 9/11 attack and saying those people deserved it…
Lick me where shat Ben, don’t ever tell me how to live
Lots of Liberals secretly were happy what happened on 9/11 as they are so consumed with an extreme anti-America ideology.
I was working for a High Tech company in Ottawa during 9/11. We had lots of Muslims working in assembly. I recall we sent them all home as basically they were cheering when the buildings collapsed. It disgusted me really.
During 9/11 I was on a plane from Detroit to Vegas. Never made it to Vegas, they landed urgently in Albuquerque and i had to take a 14 hour bus ride from there to Vegas. Will not forget my experience
Instead of making this a day of reverence, some commenters are focused on pleasuring themselves by making puerile comments.
David best anus used by village idiot which is karnee
Carney feels so good inside me.
Anonymous is a village idiot
Ben, no one listens to your weird fantasy fetish announcements…we know, you love Carney in a likely inappropriate way.
Yes, and to this day all you need to break NATO is countries acting covertly and sponsoring terrorists to commit atrocities they and their militaries would be sanctioned for because something, something…
Carney should have went to the Gander Event or to the NYC 9/11 25th Anniversary memorial. Instead he is hiding like a coward in Banff.
Carney is an anti semite. He doesn’t stand for Israel.
Nobody beats Mark Carney. He is so amazing.
Ben you obviously had quite a few Muslim men in your loose bumhole
I heard Justin Tru-DOH is launching a film production company. Probably to document his blackface episodes.
How about standing up to the criminal war mongering that caused the attack? This did not happen as a lark. It was a serious retaliation.
I too, abhor the violence of that day. I honour the first responders. But I also admit the factors that caused it.
Austin: Do you understand the reasons behind the attack? Nothing to do with Trump. But Trump is continuing to wage war in the middle east because the leadership is not democratically elected and bowing to the US.
Carneys says Muslim Values are Canadian values. I agree with Carney totally
Elbows Up Canadians like to blame 9/11 on Americans or pretend it wasn’t a terrorists event, just like the CBC.
Truth be told, the Elbows Up group have been anti -American, even before Trump.
These same people thought Trudeau was a great leader.
Excellent comment from Roy DePape. All part of the managed decline of western freedom and civil rights.
One also has to ask why planes had no security cameras (and continue not to have security cameras transmitting to satellite). I recall an interview with a worker who was in the WTC basement at the time on 9/11 and his description of an explosion from behind the walls. Also, one of the nearby buildings collapsed in on itself and beams were cleanly cut at an angle by directional explosives. Most of those pictures have been scrubbed from internet searches.
Personally I will.nevet forget that day or who were responsible
Our memory hasn’t faded either. That day we all saw the face of our enemy, now our government welcomes those same people into our country in record numbers. They would never take advantage of our good will though, right? That’s impossible. You should see what they are saying online about our country, it would scare you.
Yeah sure. Carnival stands with communist China, not the USA…
Carney has no class and should have gone in person for the 9/11 25th Anniversary. Instead, he eats Caviar and Beef Wellington surrounded by opulence and excess in Banff acting like Royalty.
Building #7… Just pull it!
Government loves KiIIing their own people. Building #7.
We need to set aside our trade differences with the Americans and realize this is a day of grief for them. Canadians also died in the attack. Just express your empathy and move on.
