Alberta’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate the fatal shooting of a man by police in west Edmonton this past weekend.
The Edmonton Police Service responded Sunday around 10 a.m. to a home near Donsdale Drive and 45 Avenue after it was reported that a man had entered a home, where a woman and infant were then shot.
Officers arrived to the Donsdale neighbourhood in the Lessard Road areas to find witnesses and the injured waiting for them.
Police set up containment around the home.
“During this time, the adult male suspect opened the front door with a firearm in his possession. Officers issued verbal direction to the man; however, he did not comply. Three officers then discharged their firearms,” a news release issued Sunday evening said.

The 36-year-old man was arrested but died at the scene. Police said two women and an infant were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, police shared more information: one woman was shot, the other didn’t report physical injuries and the infant suffered other physical injuries.
They add the event is believed to be a case of domestic violence.
Police say no officers were injured, and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, or ASIRT, has been notified.
The agency investigates matters involving police that result in serious injury or death to determine whether there was officer misconduct.
