Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star Dan Levy is criticizing comedian Shane Gillis’ recent SNL monologue after he said women who go to the gym dress like “whores.”
Gillis, who hosted SNL over the weekend, was fired from the sketch comedy show in 2019, five days after being cast as a regular when clips of him using racial slurs during a podcast interview resurfaced.
The stand-up comic, who has hosted SNL several times since, said Saturday: “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?”
Levy called out Gillis’ comments in an Instagram reel, saying, “Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists.”

“By the way, I’ve seen more men’s nipples at the gym than I’ve ever seen women showing their bodies off,” he continued, adding that he was “speechless” that a remark like that could make it onto live national television.
“More men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it’s complacency that has created the environment with which women are sexually assaulted and it’s a ‘conversation’ as opposed to a ‘crime.'”
Women are “not objects,” he said, “they are superior human beings to men.”
“I am sorry if this gets me in trouble with the internet…but f**k.”
The Emmy Award-winning actor and writer, who hosted SNL in 2021, said this was an “everybody” issue because the more men speak about women this way in the media, the more men will treat them like “objects.”
The video, which has been viewed more than two million times, received praise from high-profile individuals including Viola Davis and Elizabeth Banks, who both commented in support of Levy’s message.
“Nailed it,” Banks wrote.
Gillis also talked about his “friend” podcaster and UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s private gym, which he said he prefers because he can work out there with no one else around.
Rogan is a controversial figure in the podcast space. He has been known to promote unproven treatments for COVID-19 and for repeatedly using racial slurs while hosting.
SNL, which is currently in its 52nd season, has said goodbye to a couple of titular cast members in the past year, including fan favourite Bowen Yang, who ended his eight-season run last Christmas, and Chloe Fineman, whose final episode was in May.
Barrie, Ont., native Veronika Slowikowska joined the SNL cast in 2025 as a featured player; she is the first Canadian cast member since the mid-90s. The show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, is from Toronto.
Other notable Canadian comedians, including Martin Short and Mike Myers, have also appeared as regular cast members.
In March, Myers returned for a surprise appearance where he showcased his impersonation of tech billionaire Elon Musk.
During the closing credits, he was spotted wearing a black T-shirt that read “Canada is not for sale,” with a Canadian flag in the middle, beside Shane Gillis, who was hosting the episode, and musical guest Tate McRae.
Women need to step back, including the men that consider themselves more effeminate than manly.
We hear ya, we are done listening if this is all you have to offer.
People today would decry gay jokes, but if it weren’t for gay jokes, we may not have accepted the gay community on the timelines we did.
The line; “Not that there’s anything wrong with it”, lifted a weight that had hung over the community for generations, and it was all so they could act like a quintessential squabbling gay couple they could load with jokes and stereotypes.
Just a reminder for the sane.
It is crazy to be so upset by a joke intended to make people laugh.
We can all maturely discuss films and follow film and entertainment critics that are still fixtures of news orgs.
We do so without calling for public censure of the actors that played big meanies, right? We give them Oscars sometimes for being really convincing.
But a joke that doesn’t land the same for everyone resulting in public censure and manufactured contempt, well…
Keep it for your diary Dan.
I love how liberals scream out loud over an offensive joke while never expressing much concerns over gratuitous sex or violence in film and television because that’s for “entertainment”.
And this is why comedy sucks nowadays. Lighten up Levy. It was a joke. And I mean, he’s not wrong about those little gym shorts. Basically, this is another obvious case of a minor hack celeb trying to start “beef” with another minor celeb in order to stay relevant. This is the stuff TMZ eats up, and yet here we are, giving it our time on Global News. LOL!
What a insufferable comment that has nothing to do with the story terrorist supporting Matt.
Clearly, you’re a loser that can’t take a joke.
And you support terrorist because, you are likely a Gen Z nitwit.
Why are we ignoring Jerry Seinfeld making blatant comments supporting the proven ongoing genocide in Gaza? That’s far worse than this comment in every way!
Then there’s the US President who has said much worse!
Shane is a comedian and it’s a joke. Womens clothing are being specifically designed to appeal to men by making their butts appear larger etc. then women are offended when men notice that… Don’t tell me you wear intentionally revealing clothing for “comfort” when there are plenty available that are comfortable and not revealing.
Get some logical perspective.
He said “dress like whores”. It’s been taken out of context. It’s comedy and not meant to be taken seriously. What he said was true. Why is this news?
OR… maybe women should stop dressing like wh0re$ at the gym? We all know why you’re doing it.
Thin skinned whiny goof…it’s called comedy…he wasn’t voicing his personal opinions…with some that has a legendary comedian for a dad, it’s ironic he doesn’t understand comedy. Dan is just virtue signaling. Can we all just call it for what it is and ignore these emotional train wrecks?
People misunderstand emotional intelligence (EQ).
For the record, it is not, and has never, equated to one that expresses their emotions publically.
I am afraid to highlight you are confusing what’s best left in a diary with EQ.
EQ, is ones ability to see other people’s emotions in an empathetic, rather than sympathetic way. Think E is for Empathy. You can witness another’s emotional response without it impacting you.
Example: Dan Levy is watching Saturday Night Live and confuses his hypersensitivity with some convenient form of high EQ as if he were some genius emotional guru. In reality, he exhibited low EQ when speaking on behalf of a group he assumed should be upset because he considered his emotional response over theirs.
Annoying, judgemental people, are not emotionally intelligent.
I know, hard luck.
I would love to make Mr. Levy, and everyone else ‘outraged’ by this, to watch the movie “The People v Larry Flint”
You are getting ‘outraged’ over taste. In a world where there are real issues, you are boring people with the same ol’ culture war stuff that many people have tuned out over real things, like violence, economic hardship, wars, the growth of authoritarianism. Do I like Gillis, not really not my TASTE, and there you have it people, it’s a joke, a comment on a comedy show that you DIDN’T LIKE, so therefore Mr. Levy and the media have to make it a story.
Imagine if Mr. Levy sat down and watched some of the skits his father did on SCTV…he’d need a fainting couch.
What a complete f *ucking pu ssy. Get bent, snowflake,
Dan is a not-funny nepo-baby. Shane Gillis is actually funny.
Blatant misandry is rampant today
Glad you were able to work in that 70-something year old Canadians have also hosted SNL in the past. Gotta fill that Can-Con quota!
This guy is desperately trying to be relevant, his dads street cred is running out.
@Ben. Get bent.
I don’t care for Shane’s comedy, too simple for my tastes. But Dan Levy needs to stay in his lane, comedy isn’t his thing. And that whole “(women) are superior human beings to men.” comment, yikes. I would say that is more offensive than anything Shane has said
When I see men who wear tight jeans or tight sweats with their three thangs prominently displayed they are seeking attention because they have small PP’s and are single. Want to throw up when I see them staring at me in the gym, asking me for my number, and grabbing themselves and preening for an audience. And they call themselves “nice guys.” In the name of equality, why aren’t they called names?
And yes, it is the definition of gaslighting to suggest scantily clad women are not seeking just that, as is the case when people dye their hair fluorescent colours, or emergency vehicles flash lights and blare sirens.
It is to get peoples attention. Stop gaslighting humanity.
In fact, its not an opinion…its a joke…

He can have an opinion. A lot of people share said opinion. I saw the clip and don’t find it offensive. But when I see women dress like that, I tell myself these women lost all sense of decency and need to consider their behavior. Having a moral compass does not mean your misogynistic. Worst is when underage girls dress like this. With Rights come Responsibilities. Procreation comes with urges, it’s what nature intended for us humans. There’s nothing more beautiful and attractive then a woman with self respect and good morals. It’s time for some to grow up. And time for some to stop pushing this false victim narrative. Think for yourself.”
Yes, its true, surrounding yourself with weakness in enclosed spaces is not remotely safe and is in fact dangerous.
Get bent Rachel. No one cares how upset you are.
Hey Ben,
Your high horse is on its way to the glue factory, you may want to consider a timely dismount.

All I continue to see is the world dividing along the lines of weak and not weak.
If you weren’t so weak to have created a bubble of weakness around you (see: safe spaces), you might have noticed the peril you are all putting yourselves in.
@Anonymous 951am. Ben is intelligent, open minded and socially aware. You are not and display your jealousy for all to see.
I guess he’s not much of a fan of female comedians who make similar jokes and are obviously, like the sane among us, calling for you to check your head, and consider the possibility that your therapist is wrong.
No, insufferable Ben, he told a joke you didnt like, though, I bet the reality is, you heard that he told a joke that you were tol you shouldn’t like because, well, thats why they call you insufferable Ben.
I guess 11:30 PM is a little too late at night for little Levy to be watching TV.
Dear women, wannabes and homosexuals – this type of talk is what diaries are for, not news.
Omg Ben, it doesn’t bother me what assumptions guys make about how I dress. C’mon, all humans silently judge eachother. Acting on those assumptions is the problem.
@Leelee. With respect, dress however you like and enjoy the attention. But what the comedian did was make assumptions about women based upon how they dress. That’s the problem.
Levy is a dirty jew
Levy needs to chill. I’m a young woman who often likes to wear less than modest clothes. Yup, I love the attention and the way I feel when I’m wearing them, and yup I do film myself at the gym. Nope, don’t care about the stares. It’s all good. Having fun, just relax. Gillis is just making an observation, making a joke. Relax y’all!
Commenter below, go sck your poodles weenie
Comments here just really shows everyone the sheer number of sad, stupid, and pathetic creepy men. I bet they are all lonely too and sit in front of the computers, playing with themselves.
He notices male nipples tho?
Christ my mom and aunt used to sing bawdy songs from WW2 era
@1001, you should definitely move back to Victorian England, hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha 🤣
Objectifying women by saying they should dress less like sex objectd? Ha ha ha! Idiot.
Dress how you want, but accept the consequences. That goes for both sexes. There is no need to workout in your underwear so tight we can see your hooha.
Don’t be prudes, we’re not in 1900 England, dress however you want girls, I’ll try to hide my boner
Women can dress however they want, the hotter the be
Dan levy is gay.
@Incontinentia Buckets, RJ, and Dave
No, you are out of line here. Shane is objectifying women. Encouraging modesty? Who are YOU to tell women what to wear on a given day, time, and place? Just because these women are showing confidence with their bodies, doesn’t give any person, especially men any right to label them as whores. Do you think that it is fine to mock an overweight, middle-aged men who is so out of touch with reality and lives alone with a cat? Do you think that obese men at the gym who wear tank tops and shorts should be asked (to go home) and encouraged to dress modestly? Aren’t they asking to be made fun of by dressing like THAT? Wait…the jokes are on Shane the Spinster.
Thank you Dan Levy for being a stand up guy! That Shane person was awful and offensive. Why that guy has a career is beyond me.
Some people have no sense. Shane was mocking gym girls who dress trashy. He isn’t objectifying him, he doing the opposite and encouraging modesty.
But the idiots freak out on him, and followers like Ben make the argument that suggesting women dress modestly encourages SA. Now that IS what an incel woukd say.
I see Ben is projecting, again.
It’s crass but Shane isn’t wrong. He’s also a comedian and making fun of people is what comedians do. Really easy to not be offended by just ignoring him.
Just another nobody desperate for attention
If women are superior beings to men, why isn’t Danny attracted to women? Doesnt that mean that gays are inferior to heterosexuals since there are no women involved?
Never go full woketard
@ben, keep whacking off to pictures of carnhole
I go to the gym regularly. There’s some regular, more modest gals in there, and they are more attractive to me. The ones who wear the gym-kini shorts, where you can see everything and I mean everything… they’re nice to look at, but they’re definitely attention seeking. They want the attention. They’re narcissistic. Food, water and attention.
Lots of involuntarily celibate men in the comments. Must be difficult for them.
@ben, the only sex you’ve had is with your poodle
I think what people don’t realize is this normalizes such talk about women. The majority of sexual assaults on women are by men and we need to be mindful of this.
Oh look, another irrelevant actor trying to get some attention.
I love the feigned outrage of the ” superior species”…..have you seen some of the outfits? I mean come on, leaves nothing to the imagination, and that’s ok….
Oh no ! an upset hoomoo sex ual that didn’t like what he was hearing. Well that’s too bad. Go cry to your father Eugene, the world doesn’t care if about your hurt feelings.
Any guy who can get a boner luvs the way women dress, it’s human nature
Ohhh those tolerant lefty’s I tell ya.
Just because a “comedian” makes a bad joke, doesn’t mean people will change their views on women, or anything else for that matter.
Ben foaming at the mouth as usual,
how do you sit so upright with such a weak spine?
Geez. Women can dress how they want. How does one’s clothing determine their character? Saying things like this just encourages misogynistic sexual assault culture.
Its comedy don’t cry Karen.
