Alberta voters head to the polls Monday to cast ballots in a historic referendum asking them to answer 10 questions, including whether to hold a formal vote on separating from Canada. Question 10 — about separation — will be counted first.
Early results will likely be released sometime after 10 p.m. MT Monday — with the final count announced in the early hours Tuesday. Global News will have live coverage throughout tonight and tomorrow, and you can read the latest updates here.
Hey anonymous, why are you so obsessed with Mark Carneys ass? Every time… I think your really a latent homosexual and fell in love with carney while saying you hate him,… Oh these new and strange emotions must be smearing your mascara…
@ Willy…Did you ever wonder why sepies are viewed as ignorant, inbred dumba$$es?
Probably not…..
It would be interesting to know the number (or percent) of those who voted who left each question blank, to get an additional idea of the strength of opinion on each.
What are you talking about Hamid. People don’t go to jail in Canada because they exercise their democratic rights. If authoritarian states are more your jam, there are lots of options available to choose outside of Canada.
That said, people like Rath need to accept the results and move on. Or move themselves. Trying to oust Smith is just going to get another NDP government elected in Alberta and that’s going to hurt everyone.
Her referendum smoke screen worked to get what she really wanted. the other nine questions. now she has a solid mandate to undermine the federal government. Lets go for a non confidence vote.
At this time, it would be great to know how many polls are reporting. This should have been included with the percentage through the whole night. A ratio reporting polls/total polls is valuable information.
No hamrd. There is nothing at all illegal about the people who spawned the petition. Your witch hunt is lawfare and fundamentally anti democratic. Just the way you like ir

It would be good if they can do it but what about the gray area? because of the improper rules and regulations, broken immigration system and super slow process, what services should provide to those candidates that are in gray area? is Alberta going to find an island sonewhere and keep people there to process thier request like Australia?!
As an American, I found the results kind of interesting, given the far left, and far right media ramblings.
I kind of guessed remaining Canadian would win by a landslide. No reason a person can’t be conservative, and want a lot of federal reform, yet be a proud Canadian. Besides, question 10 was just “should we hold a referendum”.
What did surprise me are the (IMHO) narrow margins on the other questions.
1. Controlling immigration. Common sense for both sides of the fence, but is 16% a landslide?
2. Who gets taxpayer funded services? Should be common sense to any political orientation.
6. Narrow margin, but in a free and equal society, it makes sense. Not sure why this one was so close.
7. Your senate isn’t elected? Bad Canada! But this one was really close.
8. Give us the money, but don’t tell us what to do, is how I read it. Not surprised by the result.
9. State trumps federal? What’s the point in having a constitution? We “gun nuts” down here in “America” are pushing for just the opposite, where no one trumps the constitution.
Have a good day, eh.
Well, it’s a minority with a loud voice that keeps repeating the same nonsense. It’s time for accountability and justice for everyone involved, including members of the provincial government and others. The federal government should launch an investigation and ensure that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing faces the appropriate legal consequences and send traitors to thier home “JAIL”.
This question about a question was not a real referendum. The attempt at a real referendum was struck down by a biased court…
Iconic that the first to go will be the cities dewelers. Good
Yaaaa freedumb we seprateest won 30 more then 70
Move comrades
Ha. As I said.
Only 20 to 25% of the population is and kooky far left and far right.
All a bunch of kooks!
If we find some way to get back to middle ground and govern with out any social/ religious agenda’s it be amazing.
Until then!

All you lib lovers can f*ck off, go watch some porn movies your mom made, or gay porn your dad made
You dummies can suck carnhole till the end of time, you’re all DIRT to US!
Some of the comments below like “…separatists live in the wealthiest country…but they want more.” DUH! Albertans in general should want what is fair, and we haven’t had that in decades!! Right cause everything we earn here gets sent out east. That’s a fact. And hopping into bed with American interests?? Look into Carney and his wife and then tell me who is jumping into bed with whom. This should never have been looked upon as separating from Canada, but rather separating from the bully out east who is / has destroyed our country. It’s about standing up for our rights and using common sense rather than knee jerk reactions and feelings.
It’s not an Alberta problem look at the federal government … the money they send elsewhere
23 percent…LMAO
Carnhole will never ever never be our leader
Looks like all the networks are projecting the stay vote has won by a very large majority, suckers.
Trumpy ? You are an idiot
Have you people ever worked in the oil and gas ? The people who actually pay for anything in Canada
Do you live in Alberta lol
@Rick
Separation can’t happen in the first place. There is no mechanism for it, and even if there were, the unanimous support of all ten provinces (among other things) would be required, which will *never* happen.
Other than to achieve some more leverage with the Fed, separation is a lost cause.
The fight to separate will continue until it’s WON!
@Mitch Dekker
You’re trying to separate the political desire for independence from the actual reality of achieving it.
But ignoring how it actually works is how you end up with a disaster. You can’t vote to do something that is constitutionally impossible and just expect the details to sort themselves out later. You can’t realistically decide to go down a path if the bridge to get there doesn’t exist.
G Ingraham , you must be talking about Quebec right? Alberta has no need for funds that they dont generate for themselves already..
Cszabo that really has no bearing here. How seperation would work is a question that doesnt need to be addressed unless thats what Albertans actually decide to proceed
@Bhavin they don’t allow voting after the stations are closed. They allow people who arrived at the polling station before 8PM and were left waiting in line their fair chance to cast a ballot, the way that it has been done in every other referendum or election vote that occurs at any level of government across all of Canada for many many years now, nothing new about it and it’s perfectly fair and normal.
This is unfair to allow voting after the closing time has passed. The voting has been open for almost a week now.
You are the weakest link Canada, goodbye!
@jv, go back to your crack pipe dumdum
The Referendumb in Alberta is on!! There’s already word coming in from the polling stations. The separatists aren’t even going to hit 30% 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@943, you and your dad can go eat carnholes anus out
If the is an overwhelming No vote and to stay in Alberta does that show a lack of confidence in the UCP?
Does the average Albertan realize they can’t separate in the first place? There is no mechanism for separation, nor would they get unanimous approval from other provinces in the near-impossible event that a Constitutional mechanism is put in place.
It’s all for more leverage against the Fed.
Same goes for Quebec.
No, the sick and vile are easterners who simply don’t care or understand the west.
Like I said the west separating from Ontario and Quebec is still a possibility.
“Waaaahh! I want more money! I want more candy!” That’s the basic argument of whiny Albertan separatists who already live in the wealthiest province in the country. But they want MORE! They can never have enough. No bottom to their greed. And when there’s no bottom, they’ll hop in bed with American interests to betray their own country. Sick, vile people who should be investigated for ties to a foreign government. Tried and locked up for life.
Canada is dead.
Thank a liberal voter, then slap a liberal politician
Ahhhhh, FREEDOM finally of EASTERN CANADA controlling everything that happens in Alberta because easterners WIN EVERY FEDERAL ELECTION, population vote, and have for OVER 150 years now AND WESTERN PROVINCES have to do what they say. In this household we no longer want OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDKIDS to always end up paying for the always eastern run PM office’s debt because they keep voting the wrong party into power, and there is no guarantee there will NOT be another Trudeau coming next federal election. Time to get out from the federal government and eastern canadians deciding, not actually leaving canada that is not government.
However the West separating from eastern Canada is still a possibility.
No way are BCers and Ontario newcomers going to vote for separating.
Add the federalist Albertans who voted for Peter Lougheed in the past and this question is dead in the water.
@B
Threatening tanks already? Wanting your own Tiananmen Square? Good little communist must be scared.
All the clowns that think Canada wont just send the military lol you are on canadian soil no matter how unpatriotic you are
Itagood thing you didn’t start pubishing numbers before the polls closed. You would have been in violation of Alberta Elections laws.
Robin owns slaves.
Global I hate to disappoint all the Leftist butt-kissers in your camp, but Albertans whom want to leave Canada will indeed get there vote and there’s not a Damn thing any of the Leftists legacy Medias can say about it because your opinions don’t mean Jack !
Free Alberta is about account
I thought there was a question about separating from Canada?
Although in a roundabout way, added up, these nine questions almost amount to separation in practice if not in name; maybe I better read them over again, politics is not my brightest subject.
Let’s go Alberta! Let’s start taking control of our future!
Vote Option 2 and Yes to the nine!
Most of the questions sound straight out of Alabama, not Alberta.
Yes to the 9 and Option 2 on question 10!! Anyone that doesn’t want that is trying to destroy our nation.
