Canada and the European Union are continuing negotiations on a digital trade agreement that would make it easier for businesses to buy and sell across borders.
International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu was in Ireland on Thursday to push forward negotiations ahead of next week’s Canada-EU Summit in Montreal.
In a statement, Sidhu says Canada and the EU are “closing in on an agreement” to help “create less friction” around e-signatures and e-contracts, paperless trade, secure cross-border data flows, duties on electronic transmissions and e-commerce.
Sidhu says Canada exported nearly $15 billion in digital services to the EU in 2024 and there is an opportunity now to grow that further with an agreement in place.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has been working on establishing closer links with Europe, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has suggested Canada could become the first associate member of the European Union.
The two sides are expected to announce the next steps in the deepening partnership at the Canada-EU Summit.
Hey Carney – You suck and you and your entire supporting demographic will rot with you.
Not gonna accept being ruled by the EU so if you give up a milimiter of our sovereignty, you will be purged.
Carney and the Liberals can go straight to hell. Any agreement they sign will be torn up and burned.
The EU is trash.
I was under the impression that the EU was a failed project.
Unless we are one of the underdogs in the group, why are we throwing in with EU? Are we poorer than the poorest EU contries?
Honestly, i thonk we should be looking inward for marketing Canadian products. Many things we import are poduced in Canada. Oh no, Tariff on Canadian dairy. Well, by golly, look at how much we import. Looks like theres already a domestic market for dairy products. Maybe we could stop running dairy in Canada like the Milk Mafia.
Smoookes, bud.
So, grow by how much, because $15 billion is peanuts.
Example, the latest annual Toronto spending budget totalled $18.9 billion.
Zero benefit, just more authoritarianism.
It is time to set the Liberals adrift.
EU is broke and run by reptilian shape Shifters, very very EVIL, avoid at all costs
