A U.S. immigration lawyer says his Canadian client died after failing to seek medical care over fears she would be detained and deported by U.S. authorities.
Paige Adamson, 61, died on Sunday in the U.S. enclave of Point Roberts, which is only accessible from Canada.
Lawyer Len Saunders said Adamson was injured and needed medical attention, but was afraid to cross through B.C. to Bellingham to seek medical care because the last time she returned to the U.S., she was interrogated and threatened with deportation.

“She was advised not to leave the U.S., because if she did leave and come back, she could be taken into custody and taken down to Tacoma,” Saunders said.
“So she was fearful of reentering Canada, then trying to return to the United States.”
Point Roberts does have a medical clinic, but it is not clear if Adamson sought medical attention there or if she could be treated there.
Saunders said Adamson had lived in the U.S. for 14 years and had a green card, but was expected to attend a deportation hearing next month.
He added that about six other Canadians living in Washington State are facing deportation.
There is no word on what caused Adamson’s death, but friends said she had fallen recently and died at home on Sunday.
This happens around the world. If you are illegally in a different country than your own, then you risk the right to be deported. That’s the way it should be.
Definitely deserves a Darwin award nomination.

My guess is she had already over stayed her visa and knew she wouldn’t be allowed back in.

She is in the USA. The only way to get to other parts of the USA is through a land route through BC or by boat directly to the USA.

Green card holders don’t get threatened with deportation unless they really mess up with some felony-level legal troubles. And even if she were stopped at the Point Roberts crossing, chances are, ICE won’t even bother trying to arrest her because they’d have to take her back into Canada and through Peace Arch or Pacific to Tacoma, which will likely cause an international incident what with the whole unlawful rendition of a Canadian citizen by a foreign agency operating without authorization on Canadian soil. There’s currently no ferry service from any US city to Point Roberts and I doubt ICE is gonna charter a boat just for her. Worst case she’ll just be denied entry and spend the rest of her days in Canada. This “lawyer” of hers sounds like an opportunistic activist with an agenda. Maybe he was the one that fed her the scare stories so she’d die and make for some good emotional blackmail propaganda.
