SASKATOON – What started as a weapons investigation led to a man being Tasered and a shot apparently being fired during a standoff in Saskatoon Thursday morning.
Police were called to a residence in the 200-block of Avenue J South just after 3 a.m. when a man was spotted entering the home with what were believed to be firearms.
A perimeter was set up around the house and emergency response teams including the tactical support unit, crisis negotiators, air support and canine units were called out.

The man barricaded himself in the house along with five people and refused to let them leave.
Police say it was during this time a shot was apparently fired inside the residence.
Around 7:15 a.m., two women and a man were able to escape, leaving one man and a woman inside with the suspect.
Police determined negotiations were not going to be successful in ending the standoff.

A decision was made to Taser the suspect due to the possibility he was armed and threatening harm. He was taken into custody.
Charges are pending against the 31-year-old man.
A search warrant has been executed at the house and police say more details will be released.
There will also be a report submitted to the Use of Force Review Board due to the Taser being deployed.
