WINNIPEG — Canadians are seeing sticker shock at the grocery store.
Statistics Canada said food prices have increased 3.4 per cent in 2015 and went up by as much as 4.1 per cent in the month of October alone. If 2016 keeps the same trend, it will be the fourth year in a row food costs have outpaced inflation.

And relief is not expected heading into this new year, as the Food Price Index is projecting food inflation rates to rise between two and four per cent in 2016.

Meats, vegetables and nuts are expected to see the highest increases.
