5th edition of Jackalope Festival tailor-made for thrill seekers

Professional BASE jumpers launched off the highest leaning tower in the world – the Big O – on Friday afternoon.

It was a first in the stadium’s history as no athlete had ever attempted the jump that sent 10 athletes free falling for one second, then parachuting down 165 metres.

BASE jumping is an extreme sport where athletes jump from a fixed object. BASE is an acronym that stands for Building; Antenna; Bridge; Earth.

The spectacular event is only one of the many activities the Jackalope Festival has to offer all throughout this weekend.

Participants get a chance to witness some world class skateboarding with renowned athletes such as Leticia Buffoni from Brazil and Rio Sejiri from Japan.

The festival is Canada’s only stop of the Skateboarding World Cup.

There will also be a rock climbing competition, freestyle motocross and slack line, among other activities.

Both rock climbing and skateboarding will become Olympic events in the Tokyo 2020 games and all that is helping organizers bill this festival as Canada’s biggest action sports event.

Those who are interested at trying their hand at both of those sports can sign a waiver and they will be provided with a helmet.

Various food trucks are also participating in the event.

Tickets are $10 for a day pass and $15 for a weekend pass. Children under 10 can go in for free.
