One person is in custody after a body was discovered in Surrey early Friday.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a ditch on 48 Avenue near 168 Street shortly before 4:30 a.m., police said. When the fire was extinguished, officers located human remains.
A man was arrested for murder at a residence in Newton around 5 a.m. and was taken into custody, RCMP said.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in.
Officers said the death is not connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
