Toronto Hydro restores power to all customers after ‘large scale’ outages reported

Power has been restored to all customers after “large-scale” outages were reported in Toronto on Friday, Toronto Hydro says.

In a tweet at around 5:40 p.m., Toronto Hydro said the company was aware of a few outages that were “impacting customers within the city.”

According to Toronto Hydro, the company was experiencing “multiple outages” due to a “loss of supply from Hydro One.”

Hydro One confirmed it was experiencing an outage which was impacting Toronto Hydro, saying it had dispatched crews to investigate.

Toronto police said the outages were affecting the Scarborough and Lawrence and Eglinton area.

Officers reminded motorists to treat intersections as a four-way stop if traffic signals are out.

Toronto Hydro said at the peak of the outage, around 40,000 customers were affected.

In an update just before 7 p.m., Toronto Hydro said “all power” had been restored to the affected customers.

“We’d like to thank everyone for their patience this evening,” the company said in a tweet.

Hydro One told Global News a large raccoon came into contact with electrical equipment at Ellesmere Station, which caused the outage.
